Become An Actor in Los Angeles

1. Commitment

It sounds so simple, but the first thing you need to do when starting a career is to know that this is what you want to do. Really make the decision that you’re going to do this, then make the commitment. If you’re on the fence, it’s almost impossible to make anything happen. So if you have commitment issues, set them aside, find  your inner strength and commit to this wonderful career! We all want to know that we have the talent to make it and that it will happen. Fine. So commit to your career, embrace your talent, and then make it happen – “Just do it”!

2. Creating your career

Now that you’ve taken the first step and made the commitment, you’re going to move into creating your career. There are so many options out there for classes, workshops, private lessons and coaches. So, do your research! Find a professional coach that you can trust with your career, who has been in the industry to know what casting directors are looking for, what works and what doesn’t. Find someone who has had successful students succeed above and beyond!

You’re going to start taking acting classes and develop the skills you’ll need to become a first rate working actor. Take audition classes or do private coaching to learn what you’ll need to deliver in the audition to book the part. Work as much in acting class as you can. Not only will you become a better actor, you’ll build the confidence you’ll need to keep creating good work which can in turn lead to your getting the roles you want.

3. Have the courage to continue

The third thing you’ll need to do is to not give up and have the courage to continue through rejections and disappointments. Keep your resolve and commitment to make it all happen in spite of the fact that it doesn’t always go the way you’d like it to go. As I said in an earlier blog, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill

So to those of you who are starting out in this business, three things you’ll need to do when becoming an actor in Los Angeles: commit, create, and have the courage to continue!
